I love, love, love using props in my children’s yoga classes. Everything is more interesting with a prop, right? Well the hoberman sphere is no exception. The minute I pull it out of my bag of goodies, the kids cannot wait to find out what it is. While it has so many different uses, my favorite way to incorporate it in class is for visualizing deep belly breathing.
Holding the hoberman sphere in my hand, I demonstrate for the class that as I open the sphere and take a deep breath, my belly gets bigger and bigger just like the sphere. Then I exhale and my belly shrinks back down just as the sphere does.
Kids love to hold the sphere and I have found that they patiently wait on their mat while each child takes two to three deep belly breaths using the ball.
It has universal appeal from the littlest of toddlers to older teens, and no matter how many times I bring it out, kids do not get tired of it. I have even had parents ask me for information on where to purchase it because their kids love it that much!!!!!
