This week’s Family Friday focuses on Mindfulness Jars. You know the glittery calm down jars that look a lot like snow globes?
Mindfulness jars are a great tool for everyone in the family. If you are feeling stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, or angry (you get the point), you can simply shake up the jar and watch the glitter slowly settle to the ground.
Focusing on the glitter in the jar gives your mind a chance to slow down for a short period of time. It really is so calming!
For those of you that attended my last Family Yoga Workshop, this is exactly how I made the ones I gave out.
These take VERY few ingredients and no crafting ability at all. I promise!
Supplies:
(1) Glitter – I used blue and silver because I wanted my jars to have an ocean feel to them. Use any combo you’d like!
(2) Clear Glue
(3) Warm Water
(4) Large Bowl – It helps if you have one with a pour spot. If not, you can use a soup ladle to transfer the contents into the jar.
(3) Any clear container with a lid that closes tightly – I bought mine in the “slime” section of my local Michael’s store. These are 8-ounce plastic containers. You could also use Mason jars, water bottles, etc.
NOTE: While I originally planned on using hot glue to adhere the lid to the bottle, I found that gluing the lid actually made the jar leak. I ended up putting some decorative duct tape around the lid of the ones that leaked and they are cute too.
If you are concerned about your child opening the jar and spilling the contents, hot glue and duct tape is an option.
Directions:
(1) Take out your supplies.
(2) Make the glue and glitter mixture in a big bowl. I used 80% warm water and 20% glue. Mix together and add as much glitter as you like.
(3) Pour into containers, or transfer with a soup ladle.
(4) Close lid tightly.
(5) Shake up and enjoy!
You can really use your imagination in terms of color combinations and containers, making each one unique. I would love to hear how your mindfulness jars came out 🙂
