Looking to introduce yoga to children and don’t know where to start? One of the absolute easiest ways is to read picture yoga books for kids. Perfect for parents, school teachers, and kids yoga teachers too! Simply read the books aloud and have the children follow along and try out the poses on the pages. It could not be easier.
Today, I am sharing my 10 favorite picture yoga books for kids. These books are all special in their own way, with engaging writing and beautiful images. They are a great addition to your library and can easily be incorporated into morning and bedtime routines.
1-Good Morning Yoga: A Pose-by-Pose Wake Up Story
(Author: Mariam Gates; Illustrator: Sarah Jane Hinder)
This book has beautiful illustrations of children practicing the yoga poses and includes the various cues necessary to get them into the positions. From rounding the back, to lifting hips, everything you need to get into proper alignment is all in there. It’s a great book to read to your kids to get them up and moving in the morning. School teachers can read early in the day to energize.
The book also includes a two-page spread containing the images of all the kid’s yoga poses found throughout the pages, as well as a guided visualization script. It’s an all-around great resource I think you will love!
2-Good Night Yoga: A Pose-by-Pose Bedtime Story

This book is very similar to Good Morning Yoga, but with a relaxing night time spin. It includes the same beautiful illustrations of children in the yoga poses, as well as the cues to get them into the positions. There is also a two-page spread containing all of the poses detailed throughout the book, and a great guided relaxation at the end.
This is a great book to read to your little ones at night before bed. It can be a part of a night time routine that sets them up for a great night’s sleep.
3-I Am Yoga
(Author: Susan Verde; Illustrator: Peter H. Reynolds)
In addition to beautiful illustrations of various yoga poses, this book really showcases how yoga helps beyond the physical aspects. A great resource for all ages to learn how to incorporate body, mind, and spirit. A great addition to any library!
4-Yawning Yoga
(Author: Laurie Jordan; Illustrator: Diana Mayo)
Another beautifully illustrated book perfect to help kids unwind before bed. It is a great resource especially for parents as it contains pictures of the poses along with detailed instructions on how to get the child into the pose. I personally love that it includes the Sanskrit name as well, so you can sound very official when reading the book. The Yoga Nidra meditation at the end is a great addition.
5-Meddy Teddy: A Mindful Yoga Journey

Meddy Teddy is a big hit in my home and in my classes. He is the cutest teddy bear that you can manipulate into tons of different yoga poses. If you are not familiar with him, definitely check him out in the video below.
So excited to see that the makers of Meddy Teddy have also written a book. Follow Meddy Teddy along a journey where he goes on an adventure and practices some yoga along the way. If you have Meddy Teddy you can also put him into the various poses along with the book as well.
6-Breathe Like a Bear
(Author: Kira Willey; Illustrator: Anni Betts)
I have been a fan of Kira Wiley’s music for years. Click link below for the album that this book is based on. The intention of the book is to make mindfulness easy for children and parents and it does a wonderful job of this. Beautifully illustrated, the book contains 30 simple mindfulness exercises. It is a great resource for everyone that interacts with kids.
7-Little Yoga: A Toddler’s First Book of Yoga

As the title mentions, this is a perfect book for toddlers. It includes a list of practice tips for parents and caregivers, as well as pictures of all the poses included in the book. There is one pose on every page. Very practical, useful and easy to follow.
8-Zoo Zen: A Yoga Story for Kids
(Author: Kristen Fischer; Illustrator: Susi Schaefer)
A great yoga adventure story containing lots of animal yoga poses. In addition to the story, there is a list of all of the poses with specific instructions on how to practice. Engaging story and detailed instructions. A great resource!
9-ABC for Me: ABC Yoga

Fun book with lots of animal yoga poses for the letters of the alphabet. Perfect for your animal-loving child, or for kids yoga teachers for planning animal themed classes.
10-The ABCs of Yoga for Kids
(Author: Teresa Power; Illustrator: Kathleen Rietz)
Another great resource containing one pose for each letter of the alphabet. Cute poems and beautiful illustrations make this a great resource!
